A set of Queanbeyan twins has joined the ranks of Kylie Jenner, Kat Von D and Bobbi Brown, with their Australian-grown skincare brand now stocked in more than 2000 Sephora beauty stores worldwide.

Kim Devin and Zoe Roebuck (formerly Kim and Zoe Coates) are the visionaries behind vegan and cruelty-free beauty brand Dr Roebuck’s, offering a range of all-natural cleanse and care products with distinctly localised names like Daintree, Byron and Noosa.

The Dr Roebuck’s range launched in 2015 and its all-Australian ingredients – think Tasman pepper, wattle seed and wild bush plum – were an instant hit with beauty fanatics down under.

In 2018, Kim and Zoe launched Dr Roebuck’s in the US, securing retail partnerships with Cult Beauty, SpaceNK and Shopper’s Drug Mart.

But in 2019, a major funding boost from the venture capital and private equity arm of global personal care giant Unilever saw Dr Roebuck’s products launch into the most coveted beauty stores of all – the shelves of Sephora across Europe and south-east Asia.

“Dr Roebuck’s appealed to us because it’s a brand that really lives and breathes clean beauty and its Australian lifestyle roots,” Director of Unilever Ventures, Rachel Harris, said at the time of announcing the investment.

“We look forward to working with Kim and Zoe to help further drive Dr Roebuck’s international growth plans.”

Brands in the Unilever portfolio include Rexona, Dove and Sunsilk.

Kim and Zoe Coates grew up in Karabar, attending Queanbeyan South Public School and later Karabar High School. They credit their doctor-parents, with the formula behind the Dr Roebuck’s skincare range.

“Our journey started with a family formula that was made to cure our dry, sensitive skin when we were children,” the twins told UK-based beauty brand, Cult Beauty.

“Our mum and dad, both doctors, discovered that the secret to clean, effective skin care is by taking a less-is-more approach, using only the ingredients needed and nothing else.”

Among Dr Roebuck’s most popular products globally are the Bondi hydrating mist, the Byron mask and scrub, Down Under collagen-boosting eye treatment, and the No Worries hydrating face moisturiser.

Kim Devin is now based full-time in Santa Monica, California, at the Dr Roebuck’s global headquarters, while Zoe Roebuck is Sydney-based.

In October last year, the twins joined forces with Australian-owned, US and Canada-based coffee chain Bluestone Lane to place Dr Roebuck’s products in coffee shops as a unique coffee-meets-retail experience.

The marketing activation included Dr. Roebuck’s-branded coffee sleeves, free coffee hour, influencer events and giveaways.
